The Royal Standard Turner Prize Extravaganza!

On the evening of Monday 3 December a panel of four judges will meet at Tate Liverpool to decide which of the four Turner Prize nominees - Zarina Bhimji, Nathan Coley, Mike Nelson and Mark Wallinger - will be awarded the most high-profile art prize in the UK, and a cheque for £25,000. This year’s Turner Prize is being held outside London for the first time ever, as a “curtain raiser” for Liverpool European Capital of Culture 2008, however, invites to the award ceremony are limited to guests of strictly VIP status.

The Royal Standard will be hosting an alternative live event at 11 Wolstenholme Square to coincide with the ceremony, to which all are invited to attend, place bets on the winner and watch the “Live Final” in an evening of Turner Prize related activity and entertainment. A programme of film, video, performance and intervention from artists including Birmingham-based collective a.a.s. and collaborative duo WebsterGotts, will take place throughout the evening, drawing on themes of competition, success and failure, controversy, hierarchy and antagonism.

The Royal Standard Turner Prize Extravaganza is the first in a series of events that will raise essential funds and maintain the profile of the organisation whilst we are in the process of securing new premises. We hope that you can make it to this unique event to support The Royal Standard and ensure the future livelihood of the organisation.

*** The announcement of the winner will be broadcast live at 7.55pm.
*** Please arrive early to place your bets.
