John Cage - Every Day is a Good Day

In April 2011 the De La Warr Pavilion is staging an exhibition of the work of John Cage. Every Day is a Good Day consists of a selection of Cage’s lesser known prints and drawings, curated by a randomizing computer programme. To sit alongside this exhibition we are also developing a rolling programme of projects that respond to Cage’s work entitled A Nod to Cage. Our aim is to solicit contemporary, instinctual responses to Cage that get back to the anarchic impulses that underpinned his approach to the world and making art.

A Nod to Cage
The Pavilion presents a programme of artists' projects that respond to Cage’s work. The aim is to solicit contemporary and instinctual responses to Cage from a range of artists that reflect the anarchic impulses that underpinned his approach to the world and making art.

Students for Cage
Championing the brightest talent from the University of Brighton and Sussex Coast College, the Pavilion has selected six arts and music students to respond to the work and ideas of John Cage. They are: Steve Thompson, Lucy Phillips, Hugh Fox, Joseph Long, Daisy Grove Lafarge and Sophie Fishel.
