Seminar 3 Critical Migrations
– development of the Merz Barn as an international residential / research centre for artists & architects
11am – 2pm
Open forum and roundtable session. Artists, curators, architects and community leaders on options for the future development of the Merz Barn and the Cylinders Estate as a museum and residential study center for new ideas in art and architecture. Informal round table discussions will continue over lunch (12.30 – 1.30pm). Seminar concludes at 2.00pm.

Seminar 4 Critical Intersections in Modern Architecture – restoration of Schwitters’ pioneering 1947 Merz Barn architectural project
11am – 12.30pm
Andrew Shepherd, Head of the Architectural Association’s Architectural Heritage Restoration programme and Ian Hunter LITTORAL Trust will give a guided tour of the Merz Barn, including an introduction to Schwitters as a pioneer of modern architecture and proposals for the restoration of the Elterwater Merzbau. Discussion of future plans include an international competition for the design of a Kurt Schwitters Merzbau Museum in Cumbria.
