Joshua Sofaer - Scavengers Art Hunt at EAF 2008

Scavengers is a treasure hunt with a twist. Teams must hunt out objects in an art themed search, and once collected must display them as ART at a specially created exhibition.

Joshua Sofaer’s Scavenger events have already hit the headlines in New York (PS1), San Francisco (Museum of Modern Art) and London (Tate Modern) – teams begged, borrowed, bartered, and bluffed their way around the cities, scavenging items relating to artworks in the hope of winning a £2,000 cash prize.

40 “scavenger teams” will be out and about in Edinburgh on Sat 16 Aug 2008 and the outcomes of their efforts will then go on show in City Art Centre from the Mon 18 – Mon 25 Aug 2008. For further information, to get an idea of what to expect (view the film of the San Francisco MoMA Scavenger Hunt) and to register a team, visit the Scavengers website

Joshua Sofaer is an artist who is centrally concerned with modes of collaboration and participation. Often with an irreverent use of humour, he plays with established forms of production, appropriating and reconfiguring the chat show, competition, lecture, or museum display. He acts as curator, producer or director of a broad range of projects, including large-scale events, intimate performances, and publications.
