Live Art Residency - Call for Applications

South Hill Park welcomes applications for three Rules and Regs live art resident posts on Mon 28 Jul Sat 30 Aug 2008 from artists and artist groups wishing to develop new work by exploring their practice in a new way. Artists are commissioned to produce and exhibit a new work of live art in response to a set of rules devised by the curator. In doing so, Rules and Regs is primarily a development opportunity for an artistic practice rather than a platform. Artists should not apply with a specific or existing project in mind, as rules are revealed only after artists have agreed to participate. The artists are expected to stay locally during the residency.

In a grade 2 listed 18th century mansion and gardens, South Hill Park has been a centre for innovation in the arts since 1973 and is proud of its tradition of nurturing talents, among many big names. Today, South Hill Park offers 3,000 artistic, musical and theatrical events a year. South Hill Park also offers artistic residencies in silversmithing, printmaking, ceramics and live art, and the residents contribute for the running of over 2000 courses alongside 250 varied workshops, focusing from crafts to digital media. All this attracts an average 250,000 visitors a year. As an established venue, we are wary of becoming fixed and stale in the way that we use our resources and relate to our external environment and communities. Therefore, we are particularly interested in new work that explores these challenges of the production relationship between the artist, the viewer and gallery space.
