Domestic Six

The Basement is commissioning 6 new 10-minute pieces to be included in Domestic Six, an immersive performance experience within Brighton Festival. The six new performances will be experienced back-to-back by a small audience, who will be lead through various spaces within The Basement. Domestic Six will explore the experiences, emotions, memories and personal politics of the domestic spaces in which we live our daily lives. The series of performances will take place several times a day over six days from Saturday 5 to Thursday 10 May 2012.

Each piece, while contributing to a wider experience and thematic exploration will be self-contained. Performances must be relatively low-tech and capable of being adapted to the dimensions of the space available.

What we offer:
• Fee of £1,000 to cover the creation and performance of the new piece
• 2 weeks of residency time at The Basement to develop the new piece. This will incorporate use of development space, office space, accommodation and critical feedback sessions.
• A separate budget will cover the cost of set construction for the whole experience
• During the festival, artists will receive accommodation, travel expenses and meals for the duration of the performance period
• Brighton Festival is a high profile, international platform, offering a fantastic opportunity for artists to present their work to a wide audience including many national and international press and promoters

If you wish to propose a work for this commission please send:
• An outline of your concept
• A description of your practice
