The Royal Standard Turner Prize Extravaganza!

On the evening of Monday 3 December a panel of four judges will meet in the Tate Liverpool to decide which of the four Turner Prize nominated artists - Zarina Bhimji, Nathan Coley, Mike Nelson and Mark Wallinger - will be awarded the most high-profile art prize in the UK, and a cheque for £25,000. This year’s Turner Prize is being held outside London for the first time ever, as a “curtain raiser” for Liverpool European Capital of Culture 2008, however, invites to the awards ceremony will be limited to guests of strictly VIP status.

The Royal Standard, an artist-led studio, social workspace and exhibition initiative based in Liverpool, will be hosting an alternative live event to coincide with the ceremony, at which visitors will be invited to place their bets on the winner and watch the “live final” in an evening of Turner Prize related activities and entertainment. Artists are invited to submit performative / durational responses or existing film / video works which draw on themes relating to the Prize, including competition, gambling and chance, controversy, celebrity, hierarchy, politics, media and antagonism.

This is a unique opportunity to respond to the Turner Prize in its immediate context and locality, at a dynamic, high-profile art event, and to meet and socialise with other arts practitioners working in Liverpool. Submissions are welcomed from artists at all stages of their career, and contributing artists may be hosted by local artists if they wish to stay and visit the Turner Prize exhibition and other venues in the city.

To submit: If you would like to propose a performance or similar please email pennywhitehead@yahoo.co.uk, attaching a copy of your CV and relevant images. Film/video should be DVD, VHS, or as a standard format on CD, and can be posted to the following address: (please include a SAE if you would like your work to be returned to you)
