DAD Photography Commissions 07-08

DAD photography commissions 07/08 is part of Embarkation, Dover Arts Development's first major programme of international contemporary visual art. The commission will be realised as a fifteen day residency based in Dover from 14-28 April 2008. At the end of the residency, one image will be selected to be displayed for one month on one side of the ten freestanding signboards located at key exterior sites in the town centre and along the main transit road, Townwall Street, giving total public accessibility. Research resources will be available at University College for the Creative Arts at Canterbury. DAD photography commissions 07/08 aim to bring innovative and high quality visual practice to Dover Town and District

•The work will be informed by Dover's location and community.

•During the residency, it is expected that the artist will engage with the local community. The form of engagement will be determined by the artist in a way that is relevant to their own practice. DAD will facilitate and support this process.

•Use of the research facility at the University College for the Creative Arts is dependent upon there being a clear research outcome, which should be submitted as part of the proposal for the residency.

• At the conclusion of the residency the artist, together with DAD partners, will select one image to be digitally produced in large scale format (1.75 metres x 1.185 metres) for the ten signboards. The image will be installed during 2008/09. Additional images will be selected for use in a subsequent publication.

•During the residency DAD will arrange for the artist to meet other artists and arts professionals in the area.

•DAD will promote the project through print and e-media in the UK and internationally.

•The residency's accommodation at Victoria Park in central Dover offers a large studio/bedroom with high ceilings, excellent light and ensuite facilities. The artist will have the use of a kitchen on the same level. The house is part of a Victorian crescent built just below Dover Castle overlooking the harbour and the town.
