CALL OUT for Group Residency

protoPLAY is currently inviting expressions of interest from artists – sound, music, visual art and Live Art to take part in Co-LAB’08, an exciting collaborative residency, taking place in Estonia, on Mon 6 – Sun 12 October 2008. Based in the Art Kontainer, Tallinn art centre run by Estonian collective Non Grata.

Co-LAB’08 focuses on a series of open-ended collaborative projects, and a rapid turnover or creation and public presentation. Questioning the notions of individual authorship, cultural-recycling and the taboo of plagiarism, the project takes individual works as a starting point for collaboration and attempts to build, from scratch, a collective identity – or at least, a shared creative space. Both the premise and the context aim to facilitate artistic risk, as well as time for reflection and conversation.

Co-LAB’08 is for artists who want to be challenged in their collaborative, creative and devising abilities, and wish to explode the boundaries of their individual practice.

Additional workshops and performance events are optional and have been planned (Sun 12 - Sun 19 Oct 2008) to make the UK artist experience richer.

Sun 06 – Sat 11 Oct: Deconstruction/Reconstruction Collaboration
Sun 12 – Tue 14 Oct: ‘Survival’ project / Estonian History project / free-time (optional)
Wed 15 – Thu 16 Oct: Workshop with Artist Mike Hentz, leading to group performance (optional)
Fri 17 – Sat 18 Oct: 48h non-stop group performance (optional)
Sun 19 Oct: End

Please contact Orion Maxted, to express an interest, and to receive more detailed information about the projects, spaces, and practical things.

As we are now searching for the last artists to take part, applications will now be accessed and allocated on a rolling basis, until the project is full (deadline Mon 8 Sep 2008). Please contact as soon as possible to avoid disappointment and increasing air-fares.

The project is collaboratively produced by protoPLAY and Non Grata.
